Google I/O 2026: New 'AI Ultra' Plans Start at $100/Month, Offering Expanded Limits for Developers

A New Era for Google AI Subscriptions: Introducing AI Ultra

At Google I/O 2026, Google unveiled a major overhaul of its AI subscription lineup, highlighted by the new 'AI Ultra' tier launching on May 19, 2026. This tier features two plans: $100 and $200 per month, with the $100 option promising to far surpass the previous AI Pro plan in resources, tailored for professional use cases.

Easing Usage Limits to Attract Developers and Power Users

From a developer perspective, the most critical change is enhanced access to computing resources. According to Google, AI Ultra plans introduce relaxed usage limits as follows:

  • AI Ultra ($100): Usage limits in the Gemini app and the agent development platform 'Google Antigravity' are expanded to 5 times that of the Pro plan, plus 20TB of cloud storage included.
  • AI Ultra ($200): Limits are expanded up to 20 times compared to Pro, with access to the experimental prototype 'Project Genie' (restricted to ages 18+), which allows for world creation and exploration.

Moreover, the limit calculation shifts from a 'prompts per day' model to a 'compute-used' system that factors in prompt complexity and chat length. This limit resets every 5 hours, and upon reaching weekly caps, users are automatically downgraded to smaller, faster models.

Dawn of the Agent Era: Gemini Spark and Antigravity

This update underscores a strong focus on 'AI agents' beyond simple chat interfaces:

  • Gemini Spark: A 24/7 AI agent for managing digital life, available exclusively in the US for AI Ultra ($100 and $200) users.
  • Google Antigravity: An agent-first development platform.
  • Google Flow: An AI creative studio powered by Gemini Omni.

Additionally, multimodal models like 'Gemini Omni'—capable of generating content from any input—and 'Gemini 3.5 Flash,' optimized for coding and long-term tasks, are rolling out globally to all AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra users.

Analyzing Cost-Performance for Business Adoption

While $100 per month may seem steep, the bundled services add significant value. AI Ultra includes YouTube Premium (personal plan), offering more than the YouTube Premium Lite ($8.99/month equivalent) provided to AI Pro users. Plus, Health Premium and Home Premium are available at no extra cost.

Furthermore, AI Pro and Ultra users can leverage a pay-as-you-go top-up feature to purchase additional AI credits as needed on platforms like Google Antigravity and Google Flow.

Future Roadmap

Looking ahead, Google plans to launch 'Google Pics,' an image creation and editing tool, in summer 2026, with advanced voice capabilities slated for Gmail, Docs, and Keep. Google aims to evolve AI from a mere tool to an integrated 'agent' deeply embedded in daily life and development workflows.
